Orchard Ground Cover

$12.00

This is a groundcover plant we received from our friend Matt Reece. It is a very nice weed suppressing cover for growing underneath fruit trees. It seems to have a very shallow, non-competitive root system and grows to maybe 12 inches tall. This plant creates such a dense cover that zero weeds germinate and poke through once it is established. This plant is in the Tradescantia/Commelina group but we don’t know the particular species. It does not run fast and become a rapidly spreading weed like some from that group, though new pieces will readily grow and it will probably be challenging to entirely remove once established. Planting is ultra easy, pieces can be simply shoved in the ground or under mulch crudely with 100 percent survival, even without watering in! We are planting this heavily under our mango trees for grass suppression. It is also a very nice ornamental.

We mail a hearty bundle of cutting material which can be potted or direct planted with very high survival rates.
