Cody Cove Pear Guava

$6.00

This guava seed comes from a local tree in our neighborhood.  This tree bears the distinction of being the largest guava tree we have ever seen in the state of Florida.  Older people in the neighborhood can’t remember a time when it was not there.  This tree produces huge amounts of pear shaped guavas that are very sour.  This sour flavor is not something we have encountered in Psidium guajava fruit before.  Those who like sour fruit may enjoy them out of hand but the real potential may be as a processing fruit.  Another possibility is that this tree could be a useful nematode resistant rootstock given that it has grown to be such a large tree while close by feral guavas are clearly stunted by nematodes.  Outer rind is very thick and fruit fly infection seems to be minimal compared to other local trees.

We have no idea how true these are to type from seed or how valid our hunch may be about rootstock potential.  We are growing some out ourselves to evaluate.

This listing is for ~40 seeds.  Psidium guajava.
