Banana- Ebon Musack

A rare African banana which has a claim to fame of staying green when it is ripe.  This is a very tall banana that towers over our garden.  Our first harvest of this banana got damaged during the harvest but the fruit that did ripen properly tasted very similar to a grocery store banana.  Knowing when to harvest is a little tricky since the fruit doesn’t change color!  Our first harvest was respectable, maybe 45 pounds.  The pseudostems are somewhat thin for the towering height and fruit requires propping, a real drawback.  Pseudostems have very ornamental black coloration.  This is a novelty banana variety for collectors that has earned a spot for one plant in our garden.
