Culantro is a tropical herb that serves as a cilantro replacement in warm climates. Cilantro is a strong annual that bolts in warm weather, where culantro persists as a perennial or semi-perennial and grows in sweltering tropical weather. This herb is important in many tropical cuisines in Latin America, Asia and beyond. The flavor holds up when cooked, so oftentimes delicate cilantro is preferred for fresh use and culantro is preferred for food like soup. The leaves has soft spines that disappear when it is sliced up finely with a knife. It is wonderful to have culantro around during the Florida summer when it is impossible to grow cilantro

Culantro does not prefer poor sand. It grows best in good soil, dappled shade with adequate water. It may perform best in pots with potting soil or other modified soil conditions. The plants seed prolifically and can volunteer in garden where conditions are right. Seeds can be easily saved for planting more culantro.
