Giant Brazilian Yellow Passionfruit Seeds

A very large fruited Passiflora edulis flavicarpa that originates in Brazil.  Some of our fruits have been weighing in at nearly a pound and almost half a cup of pure juice can be extracted from a fruit of this weight.  For successful cultivation of this variety, two separate seed grown plants need to be present and they need to be hand pollinated.  When hand pollinating, pollen is taken from the flowers of one vine to the other.  This simple task is not such a bad chore, but does require the vines to be grown on a trellis structure where one can reach the flowers.  Our vines began flowering and fruiting within one year of seeding.  Our four seedling vines all have some variation in fruit size, shape and rind thickness.  The fruit flesh is sour, intense and delicious.  It’s perfect for making sweet drinks, ice cream and beyond.  The huge fruit of this variety make an exceptional addition to the garden.  Yellow passionfruit is known to be more sensitive to cold than purple varieties.
