Iquitos Sweet Pepper

$5.00

This is a fantastic sweet/seasoning pepper, originally sourced from the rainforest market of Iquitos, Peru. It is a sweet C. chinense (habanero group) like the Aji Dulce of Puerto Rico or Cachucha of Cuba. True to its rainforest origin, this variety holds up very well to Florida summer conditions and produces lots of peppers through the height of heat and humidity. This is a very robust variety with a large canopy and high vigor. The fruit are unusually large for a C. chinense type pepper. The fruit are essentially heatless with a nice sweet flavor. Plants are very productive.

Rainforest vegetable varieties for the Florida summer makes a whole lot of sense to us!

Florida west coast 10a – so excited to have our first peppers set fruit in high heat and humidity June and July. Lots of flower drop but also some are setting too. Had some germination issues with the four varieties we tried – cap 455, iquitos, cheirosa, and aji sazonar – they did get mixed up but I don’t remember this variety iquitos being an issue. The cheirosa had the worst germ rate as I recall. I did put all these in containers rather than in ground after potting up. Going to try cuttings in ground and see how it goes. This variety looks the best. No crinkled leaves, green lush and healthy. Bushy and setting fruit πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ so happy. Thank you so much!
