Lippia alba is a highly overlooked but wonderful herbal tea crop for Florida gardens. It’s a strong perennial that can grow and produce with little effort for years. This tea can be consumed fresh but is especially good dried and brewed really strong. The tea has an excellent bright, citrusy flavor . In fact, I (Josh) think it may be one of the best tasting teas I’ve ever tried. This plant is also known for a myriad of medical uses throughout Latin America. For some reason, it remains fairly unknown in Florida despite being very easy to grow. Being an herbal tea, it does not contain caffeine. Some actually find it to be mildly relaxing/sedating. We love this plant!
Lippia roots extremely easily from cuttings. The last time I tried to root a 72 flat of cuttings, I got 71 plants! Once you have a plant going, plants readily layer themselves where they touch the ground. These rooted pieces can be easily propagated.
