Marabou Chaya (Stingless)

$15.00

Chaya is a nutritious, perennial leafy green native to the Mayan areas of Mexico and Central America.  It must be cooked with high heat to render it safe for consumption.  Chaya is one of the most easy and reliable food crops that can be grown in Florida.  Plants can last for decades.

This is a larger leaf type of chaya made known to us by Florida gardening extraordinaire Marabou.  It has a more cut leaf and looks distinct from widely known types.  Apparently he got the original cuttings from a landscape waste pile on the side of the road, making its origins unknown!  We haven’t eaten this chaya much due to having other varieties on hand but it was given to us as a good quality food variety.  We are offering this variety for the sake of maintaining the biodiversity in this incredible Florida crop.

We ship 5 thick, healthy cuttings which take at extremely high rates.  Cnidoscolus aconitifolius.
