Old School Chaya (stingless)

$12.00

Chaya is a nutritious, perennial leafy green native to the Mayan areas of Mexico and Central America.  It must be cooked with high heat to render it safe for consumption.  Chaya is one of the most easy and reliable food crops that can be grown in Florida.  Plants can last for decades.

This variety of chaya has been the main type distributed by ECHO throughout Florida and around the world for decades. Despite having smaller leaves than our other varieties, this variety is an old standby and has many great traits. It grows in a compact, many stemmed form with easy to harvest leaves. Leaves are entirely non-stinging and of good eating quality. This type of Chaya has stood up to Florida conditions for many years in thousands of Florida gardens and deserves more planting to continue.

We ship 5 thick, healthy cuttings which take at extremely high rates.  Cnidoscolus aconitifolius.
