PI 12900 Cassava

$13.00

This cassava was given to us by fruit explorer legend, Crafton Clift. We then lost it but it was kindly regifted to us by Berto Silva, another great fruit collector. Crafton originally sourced this variety from a USDA station, at which PI 12900 was it’s accession number. Crafton has always claimed that this is the cassava for people who don’t like to eat cassava, being a high quality root type. Our first sampling of this variety confirmed it is a good tasting cassava but nothing exceptional compared to the other varieties we offer. What is bizarre about this cassava is that it grows short and wide. It clambers around with a plant ultimately becoming 10 feet wide! This isn’t necessarily a desirable trait other than that it may be less prone to blowing over in wind. It seems to have very high drought tolerance. At this time we can’t comment much on other traits of this cassava as it will take some years to observe more plants and learn about it.
