This is a taro variety that we discovered via a local flea market vendor.  The vendor was selling beautiful commercial grade looking taro, which I automatically assumed was imported.  I was very surprised upon inquiring to find out it was grown in his yard here in Polk County, Fl.  The variety was originally sourced from Puerto Rico.  After years of very marginal success, we have been very pleased to work with this productive variety under our growing conditions.  Grown in normal garden soil with irrigation, we can harvest 5-7 pounds of corms per plant reliably in a roughly 7 month growing window.  Plants produce one large central corm and a good number of side cormels. Each order includes 5 cormels.

Our best results in Central Florida have been planting in the last weeks of February or early March.  Later plantings seem to have diminishing returns.  Orders placed out of this season can provide customers with planting material to expand for future plantings but may not yield satisfactory harvests for eating in that current growing season.

Shipped material depends on the time of year.  During the late fall and winter we ship dormant cormels weighing roughly 3 oz.  During the taro growing season we ship side suckers which are topped for ease of shipping and better survival rates.  This listing is for 5 dormant cormels or 5 side suckers, season dependent.  Colcasia esculenta.
