Trinidad Pimiento – Seeds

$5.00

Trinidad Pimiento is yet another great sweet/heatless habanero from the islands of the western hemisphere. These peppers have become a special focus of ours because they are resistant to many of the problems faced by typical sweet C. annuum peppers, especially in the heat of the Florida summer. Like Iquitos Sweet, Aji Jobito and other sweet C. chinense peppers in our collection, Trinidad Pimiento is a strong plant that grows well under our Florida conditions. The plants can grow and yield fruit throughout the summer when many vegetables are a challenge. C. chinense is weakly perennial so plants may go on for many months or in certain cases, longer than a year.

As the name suggests, this variety originated in Trinidad. The seeds were passed onto us by Trinidadian customers. This important cultural variety is quite rare in the United States. This variety is offered by Truelove seeds and perhaps other seed companies. Since our strain came directly from Trinidadians, it would be worth comparing to the others available to see if there are any differences. Sweet habaneros originate in South America but have developed into highly diverse forms through the islands over time.

The flavor is nice and the peppers are mild enough to eat out of hand. As with all the sweet C. chinense, some plants may be slightly spicier variations and certain conditions may cause them to accumulate a little heat around the seed cavity. Generally speaking, the heat is low enough to consider these sweet peppers. Though the peppers are thin walled and relatively small, we think many people will appreciate having small sweet peppers in times where the alternative is zero sweet peppers.
