Filipino Mexican Tree Pepper

$5.00

This hot pepper came from our dear friend John Starnes who tragically passed away a few years ago.  This is a truly perennial hot pepper that can live on to become a small, woody bush that can live for as long as four years.  It is extremely drought and disease tolerant and is essentially ever bearing.  Plants are highly productive.  The small peppers are hot but not viciously hot like some habaneros.  I (Josh) find one finely sliced pepper into my food to bring a pleasant level of heat.

This pepper is a type of Capsicum frutescens, the Tabasco group.  This species seems to be the most reliably perennial of the domesticated pepper species in Florida.  The name came from John Starnes who insisted on leaving Filipino and Mexican in the name to notate the origins of the pepper. This is a great plant to have around the house for anytime some heat is needed for food.  After discovering this pepper we stopped growing other hot peppers because this one is so effortless.  This variety could cross with Aji Sazonar in our catalog but should not easily cross with any other peppers we offer.

I planted these in March. They are about 2 ft tall right now growing well into the hot summer. Looking forward to harvesting these peppers and making my own hot sauce. Zone 9A Ocklawaha FL.
