Red Galangal

This is a rare red rhizome variant of galangal. There may be no compelling reason to grow this variety other than the striking beauty of the roots. We happen to think it’s very cool! We gave rhizomes to sample to a friend from Thailand and she said it tasted the same as normal galangal. Blooms of this plant appear identical to common Alpinia galanga, confirming to us that it is just a variety within this species. This variety is much shorter than typical galangal, growing to roughly waist high at Cody Cove Farm.

This listing is for 3 sturdy bare root rhizomes for planting. We recommend potting the rhizomes and transplanting once established in a pot.
