This is a variety of lemongrass that makes thick stalks at the base which are a quintessential ingredient for southeast Asian cuisine such as Thai curry. The stems impart a delicious flavor to food and are then pulled out and discarded as they are woody and inedible. We originally acquired this from an Asian market which was marketing the thick stalks for cooking. The leaves should just be just fine for tea like all lemongrass, but we have only been cooking with the stems thus far. Lemongrass grows very well throughout Florida, though we don’t know how far north it is hardy as a perennial. A garden must have for Asian recipes!
We ship freshly dug divisions. These divisions are cut back, which is the best practice for clumping grass propagation. In good garden conditions these may perform well directly planted. Our recommendation is to grow out divisions in pots to increase chances of success, then transplant later.
This listing is for 4 divisions. Cymbopogon citratus.
